FarNorth
Brand Window Repair

Do you have FarNorth brand windows that are in need of repair?  These clad-wood windows were sold by Scherer Brothers Lumber Company in the 1980’s, 1990’s, and early 2000’s.  The FarNorth windows are great quality windows, but as with most wood windows, they are prone to rotting and discoloration of the wood components over time, especially the bottom rails and lower corners of the stiles (sides).  The good thing though is that these windows can be repaired and brought back to like new condition for significantly cheaper and far less intrusive than full window replacement!  If you have these FarNorth windows and are noticing signs of rotting, blackening of the wood components, or just experiencing operational issues that need to be addressed, reach out and we can schedule an inspection to determine the extent of the damage and what options are available to get your windows looking and working like new again.  Some of the options offered are listed so you can gain a better understanding of what can be done to repair your FarNorth brand windows.

Rebuild window sash with raw unfinished wood

This is the most basic and cost effective solution to repair your rotting window sash.  With this option we rebuild your window sash onsite with new unfinished wood reusing the existing glass, sash hardware, and exterior cladding.  New weather stripping is then added to all four sides of the completed sash and the sash is then reinstalled into the window frame.  You can then stain or paint the sash yourself or hire a painter to complete the finishing process.

2

Rebuild window sash with pre-finished wood

This is the most popular option as it removes the hassle and time consuming process of having to stain or paint the newly rebuilt sash yourself.  With this option, we take a stain / paint sample from one of your existing sashes and then work to match that color as close as possible.  We then seal and stain the wood components needed to rebuild the sash off-site. Once the finishing process of the wood components is complete, we return to your home and rebuild the sashes onsite reusing the existing glass, sash hardware, and exterior cladding.  New weather stripping is then added to all four sides of the completed sash and the sash is then reinstalled into the window frame.

Replace with brand new sash

A brand new sash is exactly as it sounds.  New pre-finished wood components, new insulated glass equipped with a 20 year warranty on the seal of the glass, new exterior cladding, and new weather stripping on all four sides of the completed sash.  With this option we are able to build your new sashes off-site and then return to your home to rapidly switch out the old with the new.  This is a great option for anyone contemplating full window replacement as it provides you with a brand new window sash for significantly less than full window replacement.

4

Replace window stops

What are window stops and why would I want to replace them?  An interior window stop is the moulding or wood component on the inside of a window frame.  The sash rests against these stops when the window is fully closed.  The reason you may consider replacing them is because over the years the wood components may start to blacken and become unsightly from condensation on the glass running down onto the stops and causing damage over time.  This is primarily only an issue in homes where inside humidity levels are too high in the winter months, causing condensation to form on the interior pane of glass.
